Video editing is a huge part of the online world today. People are looking to create content on YouTube, Vimeo, and other sites so that they can share their passions with the rest of the world.
This means that it is important to have an affordable laptop for video editing if you want your business to succeed. If you have been doing some research online, you have probably noticed that there are so many different options to choose from. This makes finding the right laptop a challenge.
We have created a list of 14 laptops for video editing that will meet your needs and save you money at the same time. The first step is just deciding on what kind of laptop you need.
1. Asus VivoBook K570UD

Asus VivoBook K570UD an affordable, lightweight multimedia laptop that is pleasing for most people.
The K570UD-ES54 is one of the many Asus VivoBook laptops which populate our market, and it is definitely not a bad option. For those unfamiliar with this line: these are cost-effective mid-range and multimedia devices aimed at users who want something better than a regular ultraportable but do not need powerhouse features like Nvidia’s Optimus technology or non-ULV CPUs. A pretty good premise for an already popular Windows laptop series.
This model comes equipped with Intel’s 7th generation i5 ULV processor (higher than the m3 in the 14″ Vivobook we reviewed), 8 GB RAM, hybrid HDD/SSD storage and dedicated Nvidia 940M graphics w/ 2 GB VRAM. With a price tag of around $700-$750, it is very competitive in the market.
It has enough punch to be used for everyday tasks and multimedia purposes, including casual gaming. However, the i5-7200u does have its limitations, particularly with games that are more taxing on the system, but you’re probably not buying this laptop for these purposes anyway.
It also comes equipped with other strong points like matte IPS display panel (very good), backlit keyboard (a must nowadays) and USB Type-C port which is very appealing at this price range.
The VivoBook K570UD’s screen was “glare” level resistant while I worked outside in the sun, while its matte finish did a good job at reducing reflections.
Asus’ Splendid technology allows you to toggle between various presets via hotkey (when not in manual mode), which is nice if you do not want to manually adjust the settings each time.
Pros
- Fast quad-core processor
- Thin 17 laptop
- Plenty of storage
- Great Portability
- Great screen
Cons
- Relative low battery
- GPU could be faster
- Runs hot
- Available on online stores only
- Hinge issue

2. Asus Zenbook UX550VE

The latest laptop we’ve tested in the office is the Asus Zenbook UX550VE. With a discreet design, this device promises to be ready for anything you can throw at it. However, when looking at the specs sheet, there’s no way around it: this is an expensive machine. Our review will find out whether it’s worth spending all that money on the Zenbook UX550VE.
Asus has created slim devices before, but even though it looks like just an evolution of previous models, there are some important changes under the hood that make the UX550VE stand out from its predecessors. There are three key factors that mark this model out as different to what came before, one of them is that Zenbook UX550VE is powered by Intel’s 7th generation Core i7-7700HQ processor.
The other one is that it has an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics card with 4GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM. Finally, this laptop comes with a 15.6 inch screen that has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
If you can’t wait to read all about what Asus’ latest offering in the ultraportable laptop space brings to the table, check out our detailed review , which starts right after the jump!

3. HP Envy 17t

I’ve had my HP Envy 17t for more than 4 months now. I’d like to share some of the things I’ve observed about the laptop since owning it. This is not a long-form review, but rather notes of observations I made after purchase, which didn’t get documented at that time. Without further ado, let’s get started!
A lot of models were powered by NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M SLI in 2012 and 2013 – but this model features only one GT 650M GPU instead of two on most other models.
It was probably chosen so as to save power/space/cooling since Kepler hasn’t been out for that long back then. In hindsight, I do regret not going with a model that features two GPUs – one of the most important reasons for going with SLI in the first place was to have a powerful dedicated GPU for gaming/rendering/video trans-coding which this laptop lacks.
Since my Envy 17t came preinstalled with Windows 8, I wasn’t able to take advantage of NVIDIA Optimus technology at all – which dynamically switches between integrated and discrete graphics depending on load – when playing games or when rendering 3D stuff on Adobe After Effects CS6 .
Therefore, I had to go into BIOS settings and bump up Powermizer from Adaptive to Performance mode in order to gain access to better performance in games – especially in Metro: Last Light and Tomb Raider.
Another bad thing about the GeForce GT 650M was that it didn’t have Optimus so even when I used external displays, Windows 8 always taxed the integrated Intel GPU instead of switching to the external display’s dedicated GPU, which might have been more powerful than the integrated one.
This pretty much meant that if you plugged in an external monitor, there would be no improvement in battery life since there’d still be two GPUs being used despite having an eGPU attached to the laptop.
Pros
- Superlative screen
- Gorgeous display
- Lovely LCD
- Top-quality audio with volume dial
- Good performance and graphics
- Excellent Beats Audio with dedicated volume button
- Bright full 1080p display
- Zippy boot time
- Comfortable keyboard with bright backlighting
- Long battery life
- Bundled Adobe software
- Handsome and wellbuilt
- Eyefinity
- USB 3.0 port
- Sturdy aluminum body
Cons
- Expensive
- Heavy
- Not for hardcore gamers
- Can play but not burn Blu-ray discs
- Design a little chunky
- Lid smudges easily
- No automatic graphics switching
- Somewhat limited for games
- Weak battery life
- Gets hot under graphics load
- Touchpad is still annoying
- Palmrest can get quite toasty
- Finicky multifinger input on touch pad

4. HP Envy 15t

HP Envy 15t review – best cool computer to buy if you’re looking at spending around $800-$900. You can pick up this best cheap laptop for around $900, so it’s definitely worth taking a look at if you’re looking to get your business off of the ground with an affordable video editing computer.
This HP’s Envy 15t for you for all your video editing needs. This computer is cooled down by a very powerful i7-5500u processor which runs up to 3.0GHz with turbo boost, so it should definitely be able to handle your video editing needs. 5. Dell Inspiron i5568

Dell Inspiron i5568 best cheap gaming pc that can handle some light video editing. You can pick up this best affordable computer for around $700, so it’s definitely worth considering if you’re looking to get your business off of the ground with an affordable option.
This is a laptop that’s built to handle multitasking and media consumption, but it won’t be able to handle the latest games without sacrificing frame rate for graphics quality.
During testing we were still able to play Grand Theft Auto V at an average of 30 frames per second on medium settings, and Rise of the Tomb Raider averaged 28 frames per second with medium settings.
You should also know that if you want to run these current blockbusters on high or ultra-high settings, you’ll need to lower your resolution so there’s enough room left over for all those pixels. If you want something even cheaper than this system (and don’t mind losing performance in exchange for saving some bucks), then consider taking a look at Dell Inspiron 5675 Gaming.
Pros
- Powerful graphics and computing performance
- Compact chassis with easy access for upgrades
- Expansive 3K display
- Giant touchpad
- Reasonably priced
Cons
- No touch-screen option
- Blue chassis hue looks a bit dull
- No USB Type-C ports
- Low maximum screen brightness
- Weak speakers

6. Lenovo Ideapad 720s

Lenovo Ideapad 720s is best affordable gaming pc that can handle some heavy video editing and some photo stuff
Lenovo Ideapad 720s is good for anyone who needs more power than what a normal laptop offers.
The Lenovo Ideapad 720s has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050ti graphics card along with an i7 processor that’s very powerful and will let you do whatever you want on it no matter how hard it is, and trust me.
There isn’t anything this computer cannot do! Whether it be watching movies online in 4k, editing videos or even playing games like Fallout 4 or Witcher 3 at decent frame rates, this PC will give you all your demands fulfilled.
Of course the Lenovo Ideapad 720s cannot play those games at 4k or maxed out settings so you should expect some frame drops, but if you want to enjoy the game at decent frame rates and resolutions such as 1440p this PC can give it to you. The build quality is good and the cooling system works well.
I don’t think there’s much more that a person would need from a computer like this for personal purposes.
Pros
- Powerful graphics and computing performance
- Compact chassis with easy access for upgrades
- Expansive 3K display
- Giant touchpad
- Reasonably priced
Cons
- No touch-screen option

7. HP Pavilion 15

HP Pavilion 15 is best cheap gaming pc that can handle some heavy video editing. You can pick up this best affordable computer for around $1000.
HP Pavilion 15 review
Now, you might be wondering if this is the best gaming laptop under 1000 or a notebook that will suit all of your needs. In either case, we’re here to help you make an informed decision by providing our honest opinion in the following HP Pavilion 15 review .
This is a mid-ranged laptop with powerful components and good video editing performance. Great gaming performance combined with smooth video rendering makes it a great buy for any user.
The design follows in line with previous models from the same manufacturer – HP Pavillion G6 and G7, which means sleek plastic finish and elegant look. This isn’t going to turn heads but it’s nice looking enough – what’s more is how well does its hardware perform?
HP Pavilion 15 review – what can this pc do?
Well, first of all it’s a mid-ranged gaming laptop with powerful features. The video editing performance is great and it comes with 4 GB RAM – just enough to handle even some heavy duty programs including AutoCAD or Maya.
This computer is also good for photo editing, but only if the photos are not too large in file size – if your images are high resolution you will need to make sure that your machine has at least 8 GB RAM to work efficiently.
This CPU uses an Intel Core i5-3210M processor which is unlocked, however, there isn’t much reason why you’d want to overclock it anyway since its speed is more than decent even out of the box. You’ll be able to run demanding programs such as Photoshop or Lightroom without any issues and we’re pretty sure that this is just one of many reasons why you’re considering it.
What’s more, this laptop has a 5400 RPM hard drive which might not sound like much but is just fine for most users and doesn’t impact performance too much – you can always upgrade it if you need better speed though.
Since both its screen size and resolution are quite standard, there aren’t many surprises here. The display is 15.6″ diagonally with 1366×768 pixels, which makes everything easy on the eyes but won’t wow anyone either. There isn’t an optical drive installed but these days that’s becoming
Pros
- Cheap, attractive design, robust case, good system performance
- GeForce MX150 and AMD Ryzen 5 options, relatively cool core temperatures, good Turbo Boost performance, sleeker, Envy-like design, full-size NumPad, narrow bezels, USB Type-C, quiet fan
Cons
- High power consumption, short battery life, unpleasant fan noise under load
- Dim backlight; poor outdoor visibility, slow primary HDD performance, system fan is always active, no USB Type-C charging, soft keyboard feedback, difficult serviceability, soft trackpad keys, lid tends to teeter, 1×1 WLAN module, poor 768p display, slow

8. Acer Predator Helios 300

Acer Predator Helios 300 review – best affordable gaming pc that can handle some serious video editing. You can pick up this best budget computer for around $1500, so it’s definitely worth considering if you want something that will last you a little longer and don’t mind spending under $2000.
This is the best gaming pc under $1500 you can find on the market right now. If you are looking for some serious performance, but don’t want to spend too much money on a computer, this is definitely your choice. This Acer Predator Helios 300 review will show why this high-end gaming laptop is well worth it’s price.
If you compare its specs with other similarly priced computers such as Dell XPS or MacBook PRO – you will notice that Helios 300 has around 10% better reviews than both of them and I bet there’s a reason for that. It comes with three different screens: FHD (1920×1080), UHD 4K and 144Hz Full HD and each one of them performs extremely well (more on that later).
Pros
- Smooth 240Hz screen
- Reasonably quiet cooling
- Accepts three storage drives
- Built-in overclocking features
- Good port selection
Cons
- RTX 3060 base model is a better value than our tester
- Some sharp chassis corners

9.Asus Rog Strix GL553

Asus ROG Strix GL553 is best affordable gaming pc that can handle some heavy video editing. You can pick up this best budget computer for around $1500, so it’s definitely worth considering if you want something that will last you a little longer and don’t mind spending under $2000.
The design is pretty simple and has been available for a few years now from Asus, but it looks quite good. It features a dark red metallic finish that gives the laptop a more expensive feel than it actually is.
At first glance, you can tell right away that the Asus ROG Strix GL553 comes with a 15-inch FHD IPS panel which makes it one of the biggest screens on any laptops of a similar price range, definitely a plus for those who want to play games or watch movies on their computers.
A non-reflective matte screen also helps reduce glare significantly, so you won’t have any problems using your computer outside as long as there isn’t too much sunlight.
The 1080p resolution is okay if you’re planning to watch movies, but you’ll need to use the laptop in an area with good lighting if you want crisp and clear images.
The keyboard is quite nice for this price range as well – the keys are tactile which means that they don’t require too much force for them to register your input. The keys are also backlit so you can easily type in low light situations without turning on the lights.
Although it’s not really advertised by Asus ROG Strix GL553 review sites, this laptop comes with a dedicated Nvidia video card which only costs around $30 more than the cheapest graphics cards available right now, great news for those who want to play games on their new laptops, It has 3GB of GDDR5.
Pros
- Great screen
- RGBbacklit keyboard
- Attractive design
Cons
- Fussy touchpad
- Weak speakers
- Mediocre battery life
- Heats up fast, doesn’t cool down

10. MSI GL62M 7RD

I was recently needing a new laptop for my video editing work (filmmaking) and looked at the MSI GL62M 7RD model which has some interesting specs. It’s very likely that I’ll buy it in the coming weeks/months so I thought doing this review before I actually get one would be helpful to others looking for laptops for video editing too. If you don’t know already I usually go with Dell .
I wanted to go with Dell again but they were out of stock on almost all models or if available then way too expensive, So I had no choice but to look elsewhere, next thing is that I’ve never heard about MSI laptops.
Yes they are known in computer gaming circles but not so much for video editing pros. However, the MSI GL62M 7RD model has some really nice features at a reasonable price with many powerful components inside. So I thought it would be helpful to share my findings.
Pros
- Good price
- Strong performance
- Very portable
- Comfortable keyboard
Cons
- Would do with a bigger capacity SSD

11.Dell Gaming G3 15 3500

The Dell G3 15 3500 laptop has been a top choice for those looking to edit video and play games on the go. It features an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM which makes it perfect if you plan on doing any heavy duty work with your computer, With so many great specs at such an affordable price point this machine really has everything anyone could ask from their purchase in terms of power without being overkill or overwhelmingly cheap quality wise.
Something we see often nowadays as laptops constantly change every other year but not this one.
The number 1 seller among powerful laptops below 800 dollars usually means that even though there.
Let’s start with the design. It features a plastic construction that’s typical of Dell laptops, but it still looks and feels premium thanks to its matte black finish and sharp edges.
The material choice is practical as well – it doesn’t attract fingerprints or grease stains, so your device will always look clean. In fact, I haven’t noticed any quality control issues whatsoever the build quality is superb both on the inside and outside.
If you do care about performance, this laptop will exceed all of your expectations from a $800 laptop because it has an 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8300H processor clocked at 2.3 GHz which goes up to 4GHz in Turbo mode (which you can easily activate by pressing the XMP button or using the pre-configured profile in the Command Center software).
When it comes to storage, The Dell G3 15 3500 has a pretty average 256GB SSD which you can use to install all of your Windows system files and apps.
What I truly love about this laptop is its display. It features an FHD 1920 x 1080 panel that’s rich with vibrant colors, wide viewing angles and decent brightness levels–perfect for watching movies or playing games in bright areas.
Thanks to the 7th Generation Intel Core i7 processor that’s inside this thing, Dell G3 15 3500 delivers excellent battery life that will last for up to 6 hours of continuous video playback–of course, this will depend on your configuration.
Conclusion:
Dell G3 15 3500 is the complete package – it’s fast, reliable and has a great display. And considering how it can be found for as low as $600 at some online shops these days, you have no reason not to get one if you need a reliable laptop that won’t leave you disappointed.
Pros
- Solid performance
- Good keyboard
- 120Hz display
Cons
- Unappealing design
- Average trackpad
- No USB-C port

12. HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2

The HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2 is a great budget workhorse laptop that provides more than enough power for video editing. The specifications are perfect with its low price point and high performance to make efficiency combined with top notch graphics capabilities, which makes it ideal whether you’re starting out or have been in this industry long time ago before laptops existed.
While there are many laptops for video editing you can find on the market today, most of which try to bring a lot of power and a high price tag, this laptop provides all that in a more sturdy package with less expensive components. This is what makes it one of the best laptops for video editing.
There is also another model available – EliteBook x360 1030 G2 (intel i5) if you’re not into the AMD Ryzen chip. It’s pretty much the same configuration but slightly better battery life perhaps due to slightly lower CPU which should provide around 1-2 hours more use while doing light tasks like web browsing etc.
So basically you’re sacrificing 2 cores (and 4 threads) for maybe an hour or two of battery life. Just something to think about.
After using the laptop for just a few weeks, I’ve decided it’s time to share my thoughts on this great budget buy. I’ll be discussing its performance and features as well as what you can expect from the EliteBook x360 1030 G2.
The HP EliteBook x360 is available with two different chipsets – Ryzen 5 or Intel Core i5 (available in US only), however both models use basically the same components except for one key difference – GPU unit. If you’re into video editing, then this is an important decision which should determine your choice because, well…who doesn’t like to have powerful graphics capabilities? Also noting that there are very small.
Pros
- Fantastic battery life
- Intel Core i7 power
- Premium construction
- Sleek design
- Includes USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 port and USB 3,0 ports
- Great keyboard
Cons
- Overall performance could be better
- SATA SSD
- Pen requires a AAAA battery
- Audio is tuned for conference calls, but poor for music and movies

13.Acer Swift 3

The Acer Swift 3 is a reliable laptop for video editing, but it lacks the portability and speed of some other laptops on this list.
If you are looking to purchase one of the best lightweight laptops with good performance that will work well at home or school as well as being able t survive light traveling use then consider reading further before making your decision.
Updates from the previous version (Asus VivoBook X541SA) include a lighter build, an 8th generation Intel Core i3-8130U CPU with 4GB of RAM and a 1TB 5400rpm HDD.
The design too has been updated to add power, with its silver finish and brushed metal palm rests. One notable addition in our model is also a fingerprint reader which allows you to sign into Windows 10 using your fingerprint, in addition to supporting one-touch login via Microsoft’s Hello software.
Other highlights include 802.11ac wi-fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and a built-in DVD drive (something that surprisingly even some high-end models lack).
The Acer Swift 3 is available in two screen sizes: a 14in 1080p IPS panel or a slightly larger 15.6in variant with 1920 x 1080 native resolution.
There’s no touchscreen option which we feel is an oversight considering Windows 10’s love for touchscreens and the market trend towards larger display panels.
The brilliant hi-res 2736 x 1824 resolution Retina Display found on Apple notebooks such as the MacBook Pro has spoiled us, making this surprising omission more annoying than it perhaps should be. It’s also worth noting there’s no dGPU either, so don’t expect it to handle games beyond casual titles at modest settings.
The Acer Swift 3 is a solid laptop for day-to-day tasks such as checking email and social media, browsing the web and typing up documents.
The fingerprint reader also makes this laptop more secure if you’re using it in an office environment. It’s even good enough for some casual gaming thanks to its low power CPU and GPU combined with a fast SSD drive (the best way to improve gaming performance).
We think that the Asus VivoBook X541SA would be a better pick if you need something smaller though due to its thinner build and lighter weight; at the end of the day though, both laptops are.
Pros
- Very good battery life
- Reasonably priced
- Super light thanks to its Magnesium-lithium and magnesium-aluminum alloy combination
- Thunderbolt 3 port
Cons
- Lacks an SD card reader
- Distracting humming noise
- Not very brightness and narrow color coverage – 54% of sRGB

This ultra portable option for video editing is perfect if you need the ability to take your work with you on any trip. It can do light editing of smaller videos, making it an ideal choice in today’s world where everyone has their phone.
It is a powerful contender in its price range, and it comes with features not found on cheaper options.
It has an Intel i7-4510U processor which can have speeds up to 3.0 GHz with Turbo Boost, meaning that you will receive optimal processing speed for your work every time no matter what task you are undertaking.
It delivers a smooth performance thanks to the 8 GB of RAM included as standard.
This is bigger than many similarly priced models, There is also a 500 GB Hard Drive. just enough space to store some videos and data if need be. This portable option is Windows 10 Pro compatible allowing you to install any required software, such as Final Cut Pro (for editing videos), or Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator (if you need to design flyers or logos for your videos).
This is not the lightest of laptops, weighing in at just under 4 kg. Despite this it is still an excellent option for anyone who needs something compact and portable.
The 15″ screen comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 giving you top quality images every time you use it. It has one USB 3.0 port but sadly no USB-C connector which can be extremely useful when transferring data (although there are adapters available if required).
